I'm currently designing the new Orchids & Orcs online catalogue. This new fashion label hailing from Bali is created by two extremely creative women who have been in the fashion industry for years and have decided to come together and share their designs with the world. The designs are an homage to their travels quoting:

"Orchids & Orcs was created with the thought of travelers, daydreamers, beach bums and big city wanderers in mind and all the other comfort-loving people with the free spirit."

Bridal Options Edition 16 - The Complete Bridal "SNEAK PEAK"

I have been holed up in a cave for the last 4 months preparing the new edition to come out. It's been amazing, it's been fulfilling and it has let me step out of a few comfort zones for which I am grateful.

This particular "sneak peak" opening shoot page allowed me to really experiment with set styling and work alongside for the first time with the highly fun and super awesome Penny Lane. She is not only entertaining, sweet, gorgeous and witty... she allowed me to feel the confidence to wreak havoc on the studio set and waited patiently as I scooted hay stacks from left to right and re-set the fairy lights a million times. Thank you Penny.

I also got to know intimately our local Perth prop superstore Propagander. This place is fully equipped with some seriously amazing props for any themed event... or in this case... fashion shoot. The beautiful Beth Wishart @ Chadwicks delivered great creative input that allowed us to get some prety cool shots.... some pretty uncomfortable positions for her... (she is NOT comfortable sitting on that carousel horse but sells it beautifully)... and was an absolute TROOPER about it.

Nicole Forde.... what can I say about this lovely lady. She is not only freaking great at what she does but she does it with elegance and a true individual spirit. During the breaks I learnt about what that Sanskrit tattoo meant, her travels across Asia and her downright down to earth view on the general things in life. A refreshingly warm perspective.

I love Bridal Options. I love being an Art Director here and I love the people I meet and interact with on a daily basis.

And a super special thank you to my truly inspirational Mother-in-Law, Pascale, for the late night phone call for the translation used in the title.

One of my bestest buddies and bestest DJ's ever, Hasnor from Rawjak has (finally) began sharing his spinning skills with the rest of us regular people. Based in Singapore, Beats & Pieces is a basic CDJ workshop for everyone to experience what modern DJ technology with Pioneer CDJ's and mixers can do.

I designed this flyer for him and took my sweet time doing it too (3 months to be exact). Thank you Noor for you patience and letting me do all your graphic design work (even though it can take forever sometimes). xx

Behind the Scenes

These are some behind the scene shots taken from my iPhone for upcoming shoots which will appear in Bridal Options Edition #16, due to hit shelves in February 2011.

The cake table was shot in Squint Studio's with the wonderful Robert Gordon. Love that man.

The other two shots are of an amazing 5 story abandoned building in the heart of Perth City for Galleria Couture. Kevin, designer extrodinaire, creates some of the most beautiful bridal couture I have seen in Western Australia. His elegantly crafted gowns juxtaposed against the neglected rooms are a stunning combination for images. After a 2 hour adventure through the ghostly ruins of this building, I left feeling inspired and elated. One of the best experiences I've had on a location scout. The building is itself a wonderful character. Shot exclusively for Bridal Options by the very talented Romain Duquesne. I can not wait to post final images after the magazine hits shelves.

I feel humbled and extremely fortunate to be able to work with such creative people.

Fantastic Hipstamatic

Ding ding ding. Round two for a flower shoot with Rob. This year, house music was blasting away on the system and I had my fantastic hipstamatic to get some behind the scenes.

We'll be publishing in Bridal Options Edition #16 next year, so watch this space for the finals soon.

Welcome to Vladimir & Co.

This wedding invitation set was designed by me for my own wedding to the love of my life, Xavier, who coincidentally designed the monogram. The name of the new company pays homage to Vladimir, my silly rabbit muse who was the inspiration behind some of my earlier designs.

The invitation itself was a self contained package which included the main invitation (die-cut), self addressed RSVP card, honeymoon registration card and because we chose to get married in Bali and many of our friends and family were traveling from all across the world, we designed a little booklet titled "Xav and Nat's Guide to Bali". Information on all our favourite spots, villas, restaurants and places of interest.

The design then continued through to the other aspects of print including the bonbonniere - a hand fan with our wedding details and all the people involved with the day, 2 x guest signing books, order of service booklets and the food labels for our live cooking stations and gelato stand.

Flowers, flowers, flowers... Again, Robert Gordon in the studio, again Tosca on the hi-fi system. Ai lav it. The entire studio smelled like a room filled with the scent of everything beautiful. The Ranunculus bouquet was the one that I loved the most, and choosing for my own wedding bouquet. It's glorious.

Let Them Eat Cake!

This was so much fun! Working with Rob in the studio listening to Tosca all day was supah! The cakes were fake. That sucked. The cupcakes were real. That was awesome.

Going to Wallcandy Wallpaper on Beaufort Street was like going into a candy shop. There were so many options to pick from and how do you really pick between a Florence Broadhurst or a Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen? No... really... how do you....?

Thank you to Mia, Kat and their wonderful mother at Manifistation for the use of props. And especially Mia... my little greek dolmade. (dolmade's are greek right?)
